2.4 Design Flow Characteristics<br />

2.4.1 Design Flow<br />

2.4.1.1 Design flow is the maximum volume of vehicles using the road without the traffic density<br />

becoming such as to cause unreasonable delay, hazard or restriction to the drivers freedom to<br />

manoeuvre. Typical values are shown in Table 2.4.1.1<br />

2.4.1.2 The design flows in Table 2.4.1.1 allow for a proportion of heavy vehicles equal to 15%. No<br />

allowance will need to be made for lower proportions of heavy vehicles; the peak hourly flow at<br />

the year under consideration should be reduced following Table 2.4.1.2 when the expected<br />

proportion exceeds 15%:
