It was detected, that precursor c<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong> in carb<strong>on</strong> nanofibers depends <strong>on</strong> carb<strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> rate and synthesis time. C<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong> decreases when carb<strong>on</strong> <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> rate or<br />

synthesis time increases.<br />

Influence of synthesis temperature, gas flow and gas compositi<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> nanofibers diameter.<br />

• Temperature rise leads to diameter decreasing.<br />

• Nanofiber diameter decreases with decreasing of carb<strong>on</strong> m<strong>on</strong>oxide c<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong> in<br />

gas mixture.<br />

• Increasing of gas flow leads to diameter increasing.<br />

It is detected, that synthesis temperature increasing and carb<strong>on</strong> <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> rate decreasing<br />

leads to <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> of more graphitic nanofibers.<br />

The carb<strong>on</strong> composites synthesis investigati<strong>on</strong>s show:<br />

1. Two processes compete at the beginning of carb<strong>on</strong> matrix <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong>, when using<br />

carb<strong>on</strong> nanofibers c<strong>on</strong>taining precursor metal. Fist – carb<strong>on</strong> nanofibers growth c<strong>on</strong>tinues;<br />

sec<strong>on</strong>d - pyrocarb<strong>on</strong> <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong>. Then – <strong>on</strong>ly pyrocarb<strong>on</strong> precipitates and <strong>for</strong>ms matrix. If used<br />

nanofibers do not include precursor – <strong>on</strong>ly pyrocarb<strong>on</strong> precipitati<strong>on</strong> is observed.<br />

2. Cavity <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> and diameter reducti<strong>on</strong> is originated during nanofibers oxidati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Only cavities are <strong>for</strong>med, when we oxygenate nanofibers pyrocarb<strong>on</strong> covered. Oxidati<strong>on</strong> rate<br />

increases in metal precursor presence.<br />

3. The increasing of process temperature leads to pyrocarb<strong>on</strong> <strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> and oxidati<strong>on</strong><br />

rates increasing.<br />

Sorpti<strong>on</strong> characteristics of carb<strong>on</strong> nanofibers and materials based <strong>on</strong> them have been<br />

discussed.<br />
