EXPERIMENTAL ESTIMATION OF PORES VOLUME<br />

OF CARBON BLACK AGGREGATES<br />

The spherical particles growth in dispersed carb<strong>on</strong> synthesis from hydrocarb<strong>on</strong>s is<br />

accompanied by their c<strong>on</strong>glomerati<strong>on</strong> and carb<strong>on</strong>izing with obtaining of indivisible<br />

aggregates, as it is shown in the electr<strong>on</strong>-microscopic pictures.<br />

With the increase of aggregate size its sec<strong>on</strong>dary branching occurs, and polydispersity of<br />

aggregates <strong>on</strong> the sizes is accompanied with their polymorphism. At applicati<strong>on</strong> of dispersed<br />

carb<strong>on</strong> as filler of rubbers pore volume inside the aggregates stands as c<strong>on</strong>tainer mechanically<br />

protected from de<strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong>s of rubber [1]. This fact is important <strong>for</strong> filler intensifying acti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

It is necessary to know the size, surface, pore volume and their differential characteristics<br />

<strong>for</strong> porous texture descripti<strong>on</strong> of dispersed carb<strong>on</strong> aggregate. True value of voidage in the<br />

dispersed carb<strong>on</strong> aggregate has been calculated as difference of volume occupied by the<br />

dispersed carb<strong>on</strong> aggregate (hydrodynamic) and its firm basis (optical) which were measured<br />

by screen analysis [2] and particles size laser spectrometer – analyzer SALD 2001<br />

(SHIMADZU) [3].<br />

In this report the capability of pore volume estimati<strong>on</strong> inside dispersed carb<strong>on</strong> aggregates<br />

by the simple experimental method – titrati<strong>on</strong> with viscous liquid dibutylphthalate (DBP) – is<br />

shown. At DBP rubbing in dispersed carb<strong>on</strong> powder to the end point visually fixed at the<br />

time of the powder gathering in m<strong>on</strong>olithic mass, sorpti<strong>on</strong> space is filled up both inside and<br />

outside of aggregate. Taking packing density of the aggregates irrespective of their <strong>for</strong>m and<br />
