resorcinol to catalyst molar ratio (R/C) from 100 to 200, and resorcinol c<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong> in water<br />

from 10 30 wt %, and curing time from 18 to 120 hours. Spherical aerogels were synthesized<br />

using emulsi<strong>on</strong> polymerizati<strong>on</strong> processing of resorcinol and <strong>for</strong>maldehyde in surface active<br />

agent c<strong>on</strong>taining organic soluti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

The gels were dried at supercritical c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s (temperature 60 and 250 o C, pressure<br />

12 MPa). The dried RF aerogels were carb<strong>on</strong>ized in gravimetric apparatus at 400, 600 and<br />

800 o C in arg<strong>on</strong> atmosphere with heating rate 5 o C/min.<br />

The porous structure of RF organic and carb<strong>on</strong> aerogels were determined by N 2<br />

adsorpti<strong>on</strong> method at 77 K using an adsorpti<strong>on</strong> apparatus Quantachrome Autosorb 1-C.<br />

Samples were evacuated at 50 o C in case of the RF organic aerogels or at 150 o C in case of the<br />

carb<strong>on</strong> aerogels be<strong>for</strong>e the adsorpti<strong>on</strong> measurements. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface<br />

area (S BET ), micropore volume (V mic ) and mesopore volume (V mes ) of the samples were<br />

analyzed by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller theory, t-plot theory and BJH theory, respectively.<br />

It was stated <strong>on</strong> the base of the obtained results that potassium hydroxide can be effective<br />

catalyst of resorcinol-<strong>for</strong>maldehyde polyc<strong>on</strong>densati<strong>on</strong> in water medium. The obtained RF and<br />

their carb<strong>on</strong>izati<strong>on</strong> products at 600 o C are characterized by large specific surface area<br />

(400 – 800 m 2 /g), mesopores volume (0.2 – 1.4 cm 3 /g) pore diameter in the range 2-20 nm.<br />

Physicochemical properties of the final products depend <strong>on</strong> resorcinol c<strong>on</strong>centrati<strong>on</strong> in water,<br />

resorcinol to catalyst (R/C) molar ratio and method of alcogels drying. In case of spherical<br />

carb<strong>on</strong> aerogels their porous structure and spheres diameter additi<strong>on</strong>ally depends <strong>on</strong> sol<br />

viscosity, stirring speed during the emulsi<strong>on</strong> polymerizati<strong>on</strong> processing.<br />
