Static adjustment of the governor<br />

must be completed BEFORE starting<br />

or running engine!<br />

• Failure to make static governor adjustments<br />

first could result in engine overspeeding and<br />

consequential engine damage, property<br />

damage or personal injury.<br />

Inspect Governor Gear<br />

1. Check the governor gear assembly for worn<br />

weights or weight pins. Inspect the governor<br />

cup, washer and gear for wear or damage.<br />

2. Inspect the governor gear shaft (1) for wear or<br />

damage, Fig. 16.<br />

Disassemble Governor Gear<br />

The governor gear (1) is located on the inside of the<br />

crankcase cover, Fig. 14.<br />

Drain oil and remove engine from equipment.<br />

Remove spark plugs. Remove crankcase cover.<br />

Replace the crankcase cover if the shaft is worn,<br />

bent or otherwise damaged.<br />

Install Governor Gear<br />

<br />

1. Install the washer and governor gear to the<br />

governor gear shaft.<br />

2. Secure the governor gear assembly to the shaft<br />

with the retaining clip.<br />

3. Place governor gear cup into the governor gear<br />

weights and push down into position on the<br />

governor gear shaft.<br />

Remove Governor Crank<br />

1. The governor gear should spin freely and slide<br />

on the governor gear shaft. The flyweights (2),<br />

Fig. 15, must move freely on the hinge pins.<br />

1. Inspect the governor crank (2) for wear or<br />

damage, Fig. 17.<br />

NOTE: Camshaft gear and cylinder block are cut<br />

away for clarity.<br />
