INSPECT CRANKSHAFT<br />

Inspect crankshaft threads (1) and keyways (2, 8),<br />

Fig. 1. Replace crankshaft if threads or keyways are<br />

damaged or worn. Check magneto (3) and PTO (7)<br />

journals for scoring. Measure journals for wear.<br />

Replace crankshaft if journals are scored, or worn<br />

past reject sizes listed in Section 13.<br />

Check oil galleries (4) for blockage or obstructions.<br />

Inspect timing gear (6). Replace timing gear if teeth<br />

are damaged or worn.<br />

Measure crankpin (5) for wear.<br />

Complete instructions are included with undersize<br />

connecting rods.<br />

INSPECT FLYWHEEL<br />

Check flywheel keyway (1) for damage. Replace<br />

flywheel if it has cracks, broken fins or keyway<br />

damage, Fig. 3.<br />

Crankshaft crankpin may be re-ground for 0.020”<br />

undersize connecting rods when available. See IPL<br />

for part number. Accurately measure and grind the<br />

crankpin diameter (A), throw (T) and fillet radius (R),<br />

reject specifications listed in Section 13.<br />
