Remove Breather and Starter Motor<br />
1. Remove breather (3), alternator (6), backplate<br />
(5) and starter motor (4), Fig. 20.<br />

2. Remove crankcase cover/sump.<br />
Remove <strong>Cylinder</strong> Head<br />
3. Remove head bolts (5, 6, 7, 8) and cylinder<br />
head, Fig. 23. Discard cylinder head gasket.<br />
NOTE: Engines manufactured before 940501xx<br />
were equipped with sealing washers under<br />
cylinder head bolts (5) and (6).<br />
Repeat for other cylinder head.<br />
1. Remove two rocker studs (1) supports (2) and<br />
rocker arm assemblies (3), Fig. 21 (current) or<br />
Fig. 22 (early). Remove rocker arm shaft (4,<br />
early versions).<br />

2. Remove push rods.<br />
NOTE: Label push rods for reassembly in the<br />
original location.<br />

Remove Oil Pump<br />
1. Remove gear baffle (1) and oil pump (2) with<br />
pickup (4) from crankcase cover (horizontal<br />
crankshaft engines), Fig. 24, or sump (vertical<br />
crankshaft engines), Fig. 25.<br />
NOTE: Discard all O-rings (3).<br />
