Starter Motor Support Block<br />

A starter motor support block can be made from<br />

stock 1” (25.4 mm) thick as shown in Fig. 1. The<br />

dimensions for the block are:<br />

1. 1” (25.4 mm)<br />

2. 0.4” (10.2 mm)<br />

3. 2” (51 mm)<br />

4. 1” (25 mm)<br />

5. 5” (127 mm)<br />

1. Drill two holes (1) 3/8” (9.5 mm) diameter for<br />

mounting starter.<br />

2. Use a #7 drill to drill two holes (2) to mount<br />

Tachometer #19200. Tap holes for 1/4-20<br />

screws.<br />

3. Drill an extra hole (3) for mounting starter<br />

brackets.<br />

• CAUTION: DO NOT clamp motor housing in a<br />

vise or strike with a hammer. Starter motors<br />

contain ceramic magnets that could be broken<br />

or cracked if the housing is damaged.<br />

A growler or armature tester is available from an<br />

automotive parts supplier.<br />

A starter motor test bracket may be made from metal<br />

stock 1/4” (6.4 mm) thick steel as shown in Fig. 2.<br />

The dimensions for the test bracket are:<br />

a. 4” (101.6 mm)<br />

b. 2-1/4” (57.2 mm)<br />

c. 3-1/2” (88.9 mm)<br />
