Assemble Pulley To Housing
1. Lay starter housing on work bench.
2. Assemble starter pulley (1) and spring assembly
to center pivot post (2) in housing, Fig. 60.
2. Install retainer making sure that slots (4) in
retainer (6) engage tabs (7) on pulley, Fig. 63.
3. Hold retainer down, compressing dog springs
and install retainer screw (5). Torque screw to 70
in. lbs. (8 Nm).
4. Install rope.

3. Rotate pulley COUNTERCLOCKWISE until
slight resistance is felt, indicating that spring is
engaged in spring tab in housing, Fig. 61.

Install Dogs, Dog Springs, Retainer Assembly
1. Position springs (3) over posts in pulley (1).
Install dogs (2), Fig. 62.
CAUTION
PREVENT EYE INJURY!
• Wear eye protection when removing
spring and cup assembly.
• Spring and cup are serviced as an
assembly. DO NOT attempt to remove
spring from cup.
1. Remove rope.
