devices to clean out metering holes or<br />

Inspect Carburetor<br />

Inspect all parts for wear, cracks, nicks and burrs.<br />

Inspect float for leaks. Replace damaged parts.<br />

Assemble<br />

8. Install new throttle shaft welch plug. Use round<br />

punch and tap in plug until it is flat.<br />

9. Use sealant on outside diameter of welch plug to<br />

prevent leaks.<br />

10. Install new ‘‘E” ring (11), washer (10) and felt<br />

seal (9) onto choke shaft, Fig. 35.<br />

11. Insert spring (8) and check ball (7) in to spring<br />

pocket. Compress with a small round punch.<br />

When assembling carburetor, use new seals and<br />

gaskets.<br />

1. Install new transitional hole idle port welch plug<br />

(1), Fig. 33.<br />

2. Use a round punch (2). Tap in plug until it is flat.<br />

3. Seal the outside diameter of plug with<br />

Permatex ® #2 or nail polish to prevent air leaks.<br />

12. Install choke shaft.<br />

13. Install choke plate as shown, Fig. 35.<br />

NOTE: Use LOCTITE ® 222 on screw threads.<br />

14. Assemble inlet needle retainer (12) to inlet<br />

needle (13). Assemble to float, Fig. 36.<br />

15. Install float.<br />

4. Assemble new throttle shaft seal (4) with sealing<br />

lip out, Fig. 34.<br />

5. Install throttle shaft with collar (3).<br />

16. Install emulsion tube (15) and fixed main jet (14).<br />

6. Install washer (5) and snap ring (6).<br />

17. Check float adjustment, Fig. 37.<br />

a. Hold carburetor in vertical position with float<br />

hinge up as shown.<br />

b. Float should be parallel (17) to bowl<br />

mounting surface.<br />

c. Bend tang (16) if required.<br />

NOTE: DO NOT press on float to adjust.<br />
