Departments, <strong>the</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Joint Chiefs <strong>of</strong> Staff and <strong>the</strong> Joint Staff, <strong>the</strong><br />
combatant commands, <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Inspector General <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Defense</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Defense</strong> agencies, Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Defense</strong> field activities,<br />

directive authority <strong>for</strong> logistics. Combatant commander authority to issue directives to<br />
subordinate commanders to ensure <strong>the</strong> effective execution <strong>of</strong> approved operation plans,<br />
optimize <strong>the</strong> use or reallocation <strong>of</strong> available resources, and prevent or eliminate<br />
redundant facilities and/or overlapping functions among <strong>the</strong> Service component<br />
commands. Also called DAFL. (Approved <strong>for</strong> incorporation into <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />
direct liaison authorized. That authority granted by a commander (any level) to a<br />
subordinate to directly consult or coordinate an action with a command or agency within<br />
or outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> granting command. Also called DIRLAUTH. (Approved <strong>for</strong><br />
incorporation into <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />
economic action. None. (Approved <strong>for</strong> removal from <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />
executive agent. A term used to indicate a delegation <strong>of</strong> authority by <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Defense</strong> or Deputy Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>Defense</strong> to a subordinate to act on behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>Defense</strong>. Also called EA. (Approved <strong>for</strong> incorporation into <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />
<strong>for</strong>ce. 1. An aggregation <strong>of</strong> military personnel, weapon systems, equipment, and necessary<br />
