territorial airspace. Airspace above land territory and internal, archipelagic, and territorial<br />

territorial waters. A belt <strong>of</strong> ocean space adjacent to and measured from <strong>the</strong> coastal states<br />
baseline to a maximum width <strong>of</strong> 12 nautical miles. (Approved <strong>for</strong> replacement <strong>of</strong><br />
“territorial sea” and its definition in <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />
<strong>the</strong>ater. The geographical area <strong>for</strong> which a commander <strong>of</strong> a geographic combatant<br />

responsibilities, and <strong>for</strong>ce structure; delineates <strong>the</strong> general geographical area <strong>of</strong><br />
responsibility <strong>for</strong> geographic combatant commanders; and specifies functional<br />
