<strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong>, <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Thoroughfare</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>Section 4–Alternatives Evaluation4.04 PEDESTRIAN SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTSIn addition to the continued development <strong>of</strong> residential pedestrian pathways within subdivisionsand the external pedestrian sidewalks along commercial development, the <strong>County</strong> should exploreadditional options to incorporate pedestrian facilities including multiuse trails. The usage <strong>of</strong>existing roadways closed to motor vehicle traffic, and established right-<strong>of</strong>-ways should also bestrongly considered.A. Retr<strong>of</strong>itted SidewalkOne way to increase the attractiveness <strong>of</strong> walking in <strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong> is to retr<strong>of</strong>it sidewalks inexisting residential and commercial areas. This process will increase the pedestrian connectivity,and should increase the safety <strong>of</strong> the pedestrian system by providing an alternative to walkingalong the <strong>County</strong> roadways. The study team has identified several areas were sidewalk retr<strong>of</strong>ittingshould be considered.
