<strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong>, <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Thoroughfare</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>Section 4–Alternatives EvaluationFigure 4.01-15 Summary <strong>of</strong> Projects in the US 150 Study Area2. <strong>State</strong> Route 62/64The first alternative explored for capacity expansion in the SR 62/64 study area was theaddition <strong>of</strong> lanes to most <strong>of</strong> the corridor, and the addition <strong>of</strong> more left-turn lanes at theinterchange with I-64. However, because <strong>of</strong> the large volume <strong>of</strong> traffic, this alternativeexperienced poor operations at the interchange with long delays and queues. Because thismore traditional expansion could not adequately accommodate the increased traffic levels,two more alternatives were explored that require significant reconstruction <strong>of</strong> theinterchange with I-64 and the surrounding roads. The second alternative explored wasconverting the interchange to include a loop ramp in the southwest quadrant that wouldreplace the eastbound I-64 ramps that are in the existing interchange. The final alternativeconverted the I-64 interchange to a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI). Each <strong>of</strong> thealternatives involved the addition <strong>of</strong> thru lanes on most <strong>of</strong> SR 62/64 near the interchangeand the signalization <strong>of</strong> four additional intersections. A summary <strong>of</strong> the improvementsrecommended for the SR 62/64 SPUI Alternative is shown in Figure 4.01-37.
