<strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong>, <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>Floyd</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Thoroughfare</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>Section 4–Alternatives EvaluationThe intersection will require reconfiguration to adequately handle projectedfuture traffic volumes. Additionally, the new loop ramp for the SR 62/64 and I-64 interchange will use this intersection as the terminal on SR 62/64. Thesechanges will require the signalization <strong>of</strong> this intersection. The interchangereconfiguration will require that several homes on Carolyn Ave be providednew access to SR 62. Additional right-<strong>of</strong>-way will also need to be acquired toallow for the relocation <strong>of</strong> the ramp. The intersection will require threethrough lanes both northbound and southbound on SR 62. Northbound SR 62will require the addition <strong>of</strong> dual left-turn bays. Southbound SR 62 will requirean additional left-turn bay. This will also require that two receiving lanes beprovided departing the intersection to the east on Corydon Pike for at least800 feet. Dual right-turn bays will need to be provided for vehiclessouthbound on SR 62 to provide access to eastbound I-64. Direct access toCarolyn Ave will be removed from the intersection because the <strong>of</strong>f-ramplanes will now intersect the intersection going eastbound. Paoli Pike willrequire an additional lane, and a left-turn bay.Operations modeling indicates that with forecasted AM and PM peak-hourvolumes, the intersection configuration shown in Figure 4.01-28 operates atLOS F during the AM peak-hour and LOS C during the PM peak-hour.Because <strong>of</strong> the large volumes <strong>of</strong> traffic trying to access the eastboundinterstate, the southbound right turn approach operates at LOS F and thenorthbound left-turnapproach operatesat LOS E during theAM peak-hour.Queues for thesouthbound rightturnapproach couldbe over 1,000 feetin length during theAM peak hour.Traffic volumessuggest it wouldonly be feasible tohave pedestrianscross to the median<strong>of</strong> SR 62 during theminor road phase,so a sufficientrefuge space shouldbe provided forpedestrians in themedian <strong>of</strong> SR 62.Figure 4.01-28SR 62 and Corydon PikePrepared by Strand Associates, Inc. ® 4-32KRH:pll\S:\@SIECO\001--050\046\008\Wrd\<strong>Thoroughfare</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>\Draft 07-19-07\S4-Alternative Evaluation 07-19-07.doc\072007
