Floyd County, IndianaFloyd County Thoroughfare PlanSection 4–Alternatives Evaluation4.04 PEDESTRIAN SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTSIn addition to the continued development of residential pedestrian pathways within subdivisionsand the external pedestrian sidewalks along commercial development, the County should exploreadditional options to incorporate pedestrian facilities including multiuse trails. The usage ofexisting roadways closed to motor vehicle traffic, and established right-of-ways should also bestrongly considered.A. Retrofitted SidewalkOne way to increase the attractiveness of walking in Floyd County is to retrofit sidewalks inexisting residential and commercial areas. This process will increase the pedestrian connectivity,and should increase the safety of the pedestrian system by providing an alternative to walkingalong the County roadways. The study team has identified several areas were sidewalk retrofittingshould be considered.
