This isa passive conception that aims at homogeneity.Vis-à-vis this conception, citizenship can currently be understood asa legal status (“being a citizen of”) which attributes an ensemble ofcivic, social <strong>and</strong> political rights <strong>and</strong> duties to a number of people whoown it either by birth or by later acquisition.However, citizenship is also a practice (“feeling a citizen of”) <strong>and</strong>implies a process of social construction whereby citizens interact <strong>and</strong>share values <strong>and</strong> rules that allow them to live together <strong>and</strong> providethem with a collective identity.
