Regeneration of the saturated adsorbent material is performed by a stepwise depressurisation ofthe adsorber vessel to atmospheric pressure and finally to near vacuum conditions. Initially thepressure is reduced by a pressure balance with an already regenerated adsorber vessel. This isfollowed by a second depressurisation step to almost atmospheric pressure. The gas leaving thevessel during this step contains significant amounts of methane and is recycled to the gas inlet. Finally, to achieve complete regeneration, the adsorber vessel is evacuated by a vacuum pump. Before the adsorption phase starts again, the adsorber vessel is repressurised stepwise to the finaladsorption pressure. After a pressure balance with an adsorber that has been in adsorption modebefore, the final pressure build-up is achieved with feed gas.UpgradedbiogasAdsorptionDepressuriseDesorptionPressuriseRaw biogasVent gas(CO2)CompressorVacuumpumpFigure 5: Biogas upgrading with PSAPlant examplesParameter Unit Process Plant 1 Plant 2 Plant 3 Plant 4 Plant 5Location/nameNSR(pilot)Göteborg(pilot)Bromma Nuenen VAMWijsterCapacity range m 3 biogas/h 10 – 20 12 -15 2 * 40010,000Input· methane%45 - 7558 - 6260· carbon dioxide %25 - 55 26 - 29 39 - 4139· nitrogen%< 1 0.5 - 1 0.5 - 11· hydrogen sulphide ppm0 - 2 0-2 not startedOutput· methane· carbon dioxide· dewpoint· hydrogen sulphideProcess conditions· adsorption pressure· adsorption temperature· regeneration pressure%%°C at 4 barppmBar°Cmbar (abs)< 2 5 70 - 739733 - 504-550 - 60100 - 20095 - 981 - 4-65 to -7006-1030100 - 20095 – 971.5 - 4-40 to -4501030100 - 200not startednot startedSupplier GPM Väst GPM Väst Hahnemann CIRMAC CIRMACInvestment M€ no data no data 1.24 6Operational costs k€/year no data no data not startedTable 12: Biomass upgrading with PSA56Excess H 2S (> 2 ppm) removed separatelyHigh pressure system includedpage: 37
