iIVORY COASTNo information available on population status.EXPLOITATIONA turtle fishery operating out of Abidjan used to catch mainly C. caretta<strong>and</strong> L. olivacea . but it is possible that other species were taken. A totalof 516 turtles were l<strong>and</strong>ed in 1967 <strong>and</strong> 797 in 1968. About the same numberagain of turtles was estimated to be thrown back because they could not bestored in the boats, <strong>and</strong> some (about 10%) were eaten on board by the crews(Goodwin, 1971).International trade Ivory Coast is not a Party to CITES. There is norecord of any trade in sea turtles with Ivory Coast recorded in the CITESAnnual Reports.LEGISLATIONHunting <strong>and</strong> export of all wild animals has been forbidden since 1 January1974. Licences will be granted in exceptional cases.Wildlife <strong>and</strong> Hunting Act, 4 August 1965.The possession <strong>and</strong> trade of Testudines, including sea turtles isprohibited <strong>and</strong>/or regulated.272
