BAHRAINGreen Turtles are reported to feed off the Bahrain coast (Gallagher, 1971),<strong>and</strong> one or two are washed up dead annually (source in Ross <strong>and</strong> Barwani,1982). There is no information on the occurrence of nesting (Ross <strong>and</strong>Barwani, 1982). A recent field project concerned with the coastalenvironment in Bahrain (lUCN, 1986a) sighted six unidentified turtles offshore during a survey by helicopter, but found no evidence of nesting.EXPLOITATIONGreen Turtles are said not to be caught or consumed in Bahrain (Ross <strong>and</strong>Barwani, 1982).Bahrain is not a Party to CITES, but CITES Annual Reports contain tworecords of trade involving sea turtles. In 1983, Switzerl<strong>and</strong> reportedimporting one shell of E. imbricata from Bahrain, <strong>and</strong> in 1982 the CaymanIsl<strong>and</strong>s exported 3000 lbs of C. mydas meat to Bahrain.LEGISLATIONThere is reported to be no legislation affecting turtles in Bahrain (Ross<strong>and</strong> Barwani , 1982) .87
