Mini<strong>RAE</strong> <strong>3000</strong> User’s <strong>Guide</strong>display. If there is a charging error, the LED glows redcontinuously.A completely discharged instrument can be charged to full capacitywithin 8 hours. Batteries drain slowly even if an instrument is off.Therefore, if the instrument has been in storage or has not been chargedfor several days or longer, check the charge before using it.The factory-supplied battery is designed to last for 16 hours of normaloperation (no alarm), for a new battery under the optimumcircumstances. As the battery becomes older or is subject to adverseconditions (such as cold ambient temperature), its capacity will besignificantly reduced.Alkaline Battery AdapterAn alkaline battery adapter is supplied with each instrument. Theadapter (part number 059-3052-000) accepts four AA alkaline batteries(use only Duracell MN1500) and provides approximately 12 hours ofoperation. The adapter is intended to be used in emergency situationswhen there is no time to charge the Li-ion battery pack.To insert batteries into the adapter:1. Remove the three Philips-head screws toopen the compartment in the adapter.2. Insert four fresh AA batteries as indicatedby the polarity (+/-) markings.3. Replace the cover. Replace the threescrews.To install the adapter in the instrument:1. Remove the Li-ion battery pack from the instrument by slidingthe tab and tilting out the battery.2. Replace it with the alkaline battery adapter3. Slide the tab back into place to secure the battery adapter.IMPORTANT!Alkaline batteries cannot be recharged. The instrument’s internal circuitdetects alkaline batteries and will not allow recharging. If you place theinstrument in its cradle, the alkaline battery will not be recharged. The32
