<strong>User</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> Safety 3Patient safetyGeneralWARNING Accessory adapter required for use on pediatric patients.The <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> is not to be used on patients less than 8 years old or under 25kg(55 lbs), unless it is equipped with the accessory <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> Pediatric EnergyReducer (<strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> part number 002173-U).WARNING Ferromagnetic EquipmentECG electrodes and cables contain ferromagnetic materials. They must notbe used in the presence of large magnetic fields created by magneticresonance imaging (MRI) equipment. The large magnetic fields generated byan MRI device could move ferromagnetic equipment with an extremelyviolent force that could cause serious personal injury or death to personsbetween the equipment and the MRI device.Shock hazardBurnsCaution Patient Physical HarmPlace the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> in a position where it cannot harm the patientshould it fall. Do not use adjacent to or stacked with other equipment. Keepall cables and connectors away from the patient’s neck.WARNING Defibrillation current can cause injury.Do not touch the patient during defibrillation. Do not touch equipmentconnected to or metal objects in contact with the patient during defibrillation.Disconnect other electrical equipment from the patient before defibrillating.WARNING Properly place defibrillation pads.Do not allow defibrillation pads to touch each other, or to touch other ECGelectrodes, lead wires, dressings, transdermal patches, etc. Such contact cancause patient skin burns during defibrillation and may divert defibrillatingcurrent away from the heart.Remove excessive body hair, which may cause skin burns or ineffectiveenergy transfer. Do not use alcohol, iodine, or other skin preparations. Thesecan dry the skin and may cause the <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> to function improperly or maycause skin burns.
