<strong>User</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> Safety 7Battery careaCaution Use only <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> batteries.Use only <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> Part No. 001852-U non-rechargeable lithium battery.Use of any other battery can damage the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong>.Caution Always verify remaining capacity of a non-rechargeable battery afteruse.Check capacity and change if battery is low. See “Maintenance schedule” onpage 62.Caution Replace the battery at 5 years.Battery replacement at 5 years is recommended due to degradation of thebattery chemistry.Caution Only turn on the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> when the defibrillator is to beused on a patient. Avoid turning on the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> during nonemergencysituations.Battery capacity is reduced with every activation or “power up” of thedevice.Caution The flashing low battery status indicator means that the battery isbeginning to weaken and should be replaced at the first opportunity. The <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong>remains operable when the flashing low battery is activated, and it can be usedon a patient in this condition or continued in use when connected to a patient ifthe low battery indicator activates. Replace the battery as soon as possible.Caution If the <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> is subjected to cold temperatures near or outside of itslow temperature operating limit of 32° F (0° C), the low battery status indicatormay be triggered even with a new battery. The low battery indicator caused bycold temperature may cease when the device is warmed. Discharging the deviceto defibrillate a patient may cause sufficient warming to eliminate the low batteryindicator or cause it to be intermittent.
