<strong>User</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> Maintenance 61The user can stop these notifications by powering up the unit and addressing theproblem.If a self-test failure is detected the System Status indicator will display the red DO NOTUSE indicator. If the failure was only a low battery, the indicator will flash rather thandisplay a solid DO NOT USE indicator.NoteThe user MUST power the <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> on via the power button to clear a low batteryerror. Simply replacing the battery will not always clear the fault.At power up and automatic self test the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> will test the performance ofits battery, main processor, stuck key, internal circuitry, ECG acquisition system anddefibrillator.NoteThe capacity of the battery is reduced with every activation or “power up” of thedevice. The <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> performs automatic self-tests on a weekly and monthly basisand therefore additional power ups are not required.Inspecting for damageService and repairInspect the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> and battery. Look for signs of damage. See “Checklistsfor preparedness” on page 63 for specific inspection requirements.Contact an authorized service agent immediately if:• The unit is not functioning properly.• Accessories show signs of deterioration.• The unit was subjected to extreme mechanical stress.• Status indicator displays a “Do Not Use” icon.WARNING Hazardous voltage. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do notattempt to remove the cover under any circumstances. There are no operatorserviceable components and only a qualified technician should service the <strong>Welch</strong><strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong>.WARNING Do not disassemble the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong>. There are no operatorserviceable components. Service and repair should be performed only byauthorized service personnel (see page ii).If a <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> needs servicing, contact an authorized service agent (see page ii).Be prepared to provide the following information:• Model• Serial number• Description of the problem• Service log fileIf the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> needs to be returned for servicing, use the original shippingcontainer. If the shipping container is not available, contact <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> for packinginstructions prior to shipping. This will help minimize damage during shipping.
