<strong>User</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> Introduction 23Preparing the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> for readinessAfter each use, any rescue event documentation should be retrieved from the internal logand printed. Error messages or malfunctions should be reported and corrective actionstaken before redeploying the device. The <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> should be inspected andcleaned in accordance with recommendations in this <strong>User</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> (see “Maintenance”on page 59). Used defibrillation pads should be removed from the device and replacedwith new defibrillation pads. Check battery readiness by verifying that the <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> statusindicator, located to the left of the green power button, is in a “ready to use” state ( ). Ifthe status indicator is flashing a red circle with a slash through it ( ), this indicates a“Low Battery” situation. Replace battery with a new battery pack before redeployingdevice.NoteNoteDo not open the sealed defibrillation pad pouch until the pads are ready to beused.To remove the pads, pull the wire connector upward from the device.NoteDO NOT REUSE PADS.Store a new set of defibrillation pads in the carrying case electrode storage pocket —located on the inside flap of the <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> carrying case. Spare pads can be stored in theexterior pocket of the carrying case. Make sure the pad expiration date can be viewedthrough the pad window of the carrying case. When preparing your device for readiness,be sure the status indicator is visible through the round window of the carrying case.While in standby, the <strong>Welch</strong> <strong>Allyn</strong> <strong>AED</strong> <strong>10</strong> automatically performs periodic self-testsincluding the functionality of the unit and the status of the battery and internal circuitry. Aperiodic visual inspection of your device should be performed on a weekly or monthlybasis, but should not include turning on the device since that will deplete the battery. See“Maintenance” on page 59 for more information.
