Access <strong>for</strong> Work on or Near High Voltage ElectricalApparatus9.7 PREPARING HIGH VOLTAGEELECTRICAL APPARATUS FOR ACCESS9.7.1 Isolation and EarthingHigh voltage <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus should not beregarded as being safe <strong>for</strong> the issue <strong>of</strong> an <strong>electrical</strong>access permit until it has been isolated andearthed.Consideration shall be given to the isolation <strong>of</strong>sources <strong>of</strong> supply from low voltage or secondarycircuits.Organisational procedures shall ensure theintegrity <strong>of</strong> the isolation is maintained duringcurrency <strong>of</strong> the <strong>electrical</strong> access permit.Isolation <strong>for</strong> access shall either be visible, or anapproved means used to confirm that the <strong>electrical</strong>apparatus is de-energised.Note: Such isolation may not eliminate the effects<strong>of</strong> <strong>electrical</strong> or magnetic induction.Earths shall be applied as described in Clause 8.2.If earthing is not practicable other appropriateprecautions shall be taken and the authorised<strong>electrical</strong> operator shall advise the recipient inBlue Book – December 2005 Page 99 <strong>of</strong> 148
