Access <strong>for</strong> Work on or Near High Voltage ElectricalApparatuscharge and record the absence <strong>of</strong> an earth on the<strong>electrical</strong> access permit.9.7.2 Barriers and Signs9.7.2.1 GeneralAppropriate barriers shall be used wherenecessary to indicate areas containing live<strong>electrical</strong> apparatus and the degree <strong>of</strong> hazard.Appropriate signs shall be used where necessary:• to identify <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus covered by anaccess authority; and• to identify adjacent live <strong>electrical</strong> apparatusand related hazard.Barriers shall not be altered or crossed except inaccordance with organisational procedures.9.7.2.2 Hazards which are likely to be lifethreateningSituations where there is an immediate andprobable risk <strong>of</strong> contact with live <strong>electrical</strong>apparatus shall be defined by the use <strong>of</strong> ‘danger’barriers and/or signs (refer 9.7.2.4), e.g.:• areas where safe approach distances cannotbe maintained; orPage 100 <strong>of</strong> 148 Blue Book – December 2005
