Work in the Vicinity <strong>of</strong> Electrical Apparatus5 WORK IN THE VICINITY OFELECTRICAL APPARATUSPRINCIPLE – Work in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>electrical</strong>apparatus shall be carried out in a safe manner.Control measures taken shall be consistent withthe risk and <strong>work</strong> per<strong>for</strong>med.5.1 GENERALFor all <strong>work</strong>s in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>electrical</strong> apparatuseither specific written <strong>work</strong> instructions shall beused or organisational procedures shall apply inconjunction with the use <strong>of</strong> instructed or authorisedpersons.Where the risk assessment requires a record <strong>of</strong> thecontrol measures then instructions shall be issuedto the <strong>work</strong> party in accordance with Organisationalprocedure.The control measures implemented shall minimisethe risks involved and may include:• defining the <strong>work</strong> area;• isolating and earthing the <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus;Blue Book – December 2005 Page 43 <strong>of</strong> 148
