Work in the Vicinity <strong>of</strong> Electrical Apparatus• the use <strong>of</strong> barriers and signs;• the use <strong>of</strong> approved covering;• the use <strong>of</strong> <strong>safety</strong> observers;• the issue <strong>of</strong> the appropriate access authorityor authority to <strong>work</strong> in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>electrical</strong>apparatus; and• defining access routes.5.2 HANDLING OBJECTS/LOADSWhen objects are being handled manually or bymechanical equipment, care shall be exercised toprevent the objects or the mechanical equipmentinfringing safe approach distances.For manual handling, appropriate <strong>work</strong> methodsand an appropriate number <strong>of</strong> persons shall beused to maintain safe approach distances.For mechanical handling where there is a risk <strong>of</strong>infringing the safe approach distances (refersection 6) to <strong>electrical</strong> conductors, the movement<strong>of</strong> loads shall be controlled by means <strong>of</strong> approvednon-conducting ropes or other approved means.No person outside the cabin shall contact the load,mobile plant or any attached conducting objects(Refer to clause 5.4 <strong>for</strong> protection <strong>of</strong> other persons).Page 44 <strong>of</strong> 148 Blue Book – December 2005
