General Safety Requirementsdevices, insulating plat<str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g>ms, insulated elevating<str<strong>on</strong>g>w<strong>or</strong>k</str<strong>on</strong>g> plat<str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g>ms <strong>or</strong> other equipment used <str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g>operating <strong>high</strong> <strong>voltage</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>electrical</str<strong>on</strong>g> apparatus <strong>or</strong>per<str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g>ming live-line <str<strong>on</strong>g>w<strong>or</strong>k</str<strong>on</strong>g> shall be specificallyapproved <str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> the particular applicati<strong>on</strong>. Visualinspecti<strong>on</strong> shall be made <str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> physical damage <strong>or</strong>c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> immediately pri<strong>or</strong> to use.All equipment including protective equipment used<strong>on</strong> <strong>high</strong> <strong>voltage</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>electrical</str<strong>on</strong>g> apparatus and whichrequires regular testing to prove the effectiveness<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> insulati<strong>on</strong> shall be tested at specific intervals asper Organisati<strong>on</strong>al procedures and marked to showthe date <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the next routine test.Gloves, sleeves, mats and protective barriers <strong>or</strong>covers used <str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> operating <strong>high</strong> <strong>voltage</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>electrical</str<strong>on</strong>g>apparatus <strong>or</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> per<str<strong>on</strong>g>f<strong>or</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g>ming Glove and Barrier Live-Line W<strong>or</strong>k shall not be relied up<strong>on</strong> as the solemeans <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> insulati<strong>on</strong>.Equipment shall not be used after the marked dateuntil retested.3.6 INSULATING STICKS3.6.1 Insulating sticks shall have a length whichprovides appropriate insulati<strong>on</strong> from live parts andenables a pers<strong>on</strong> using the stick to maintain theapplicable safe approach distance (refer 6.2) at allPage 30 <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 148 Blue Book – December 2005
