General Safety Requirementsdevices, insulating plat<strong>for</strong>ms, insulated elevating<strong>work</strong> plat<strong>for</strong>ms or other equipment used <strong>for</strong>operating high voltage <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus orper<strong>for</strong>ming live-line <strong>work</strong> shall be specificallyapproved <strong>for</strong> the particular application. Visualinspection shall be made <strong>for</strong> physical damage orcontamination immediately prior to use.All equipment including protective equipment usedon high voltage <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus and whichrequires regular testing to prove the effectiveness<strong>of</strong> insulation shall be tested at specific intervals asper Organisational procedures and marked to showthe date <strong>of</strong> the next routine test.Gloves, sleeves, mats and protective barriers orcovers used <strong>for</strong> operating high voltage <strong>electrical</strong>apparatus or <strong>for</strong> per<strong>for</strong>ming Glove and Barrier Live-Line Work shall not be relied upon as the solemeans <strong>of</strong> insulation.Equipment shall not be used after the marked dateuntil retested.3.6 INSULATING STICKS3.6.1 Insulating sticks shall have a length whichprovides appropriate insulation from live parts andenables a person using the stick to maintain theapplicable safe approach distance (refer 6.2) at allPage 30 <strong>of</strong> 148 Blue Book – December 2005
