General Safety RequirementsA <strong>safety</strong> observer shall:• monitor the <strong>work</strong> and warn against potentialinfringement <strong>of</strong> safe approach distances;• be positioned to effectively observe andimmediately communicate with personsper<strong>for</strong>ming the <strong>work</strong>;• have the authority to temporarily suspend therelevant <strong>work</strong> at any time;• not per<strong>for</strong>m any other <strong>work</strong> while acting as<strong>safety</strong> observer; and• be specifically instructed in the duties and<strong>work</strong>place hazards applicable.3.12 FIT STATE FOR WORKAlcohol, drugs, mental alertness and physicalcondition <strong>of</strong> a person may impede their ability to<strong>work</strong> safely in an <strong>electrical</strong> environment.Persons who are required to <strong>work</strong> on, near or in thevicinity <strong>of</strong> <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus shall not consume orbe under the influence <strong>of</strong> alcohol or drugs thatdiminish <strong>work</strong> skills during <strong>work</strong> hours.
