Approach To Electrical Apparatus‘Vicinity’ means a situation where it is unlikelythat a person will, either directly or through any conductingmedium (eg mobile plant) come within the relevantsafe approach distances.‘Near’ means a situation where thereis a reasonable possibility <strong>of</strong> a person,either directly or through anyconducting medium (eg: via mobile plant)coming within the relevantsafe approach distances.‘Safe Approach Distance’ means the minimumdistance that shall be maintained by a personvehicle or mobile plant (including it’s load-controllingropes and other accessories) when approaching<strong>electrical</strong> apparatus other than <strong>for</strong> <strong>work</strong>in accordance with an access authority.‘Conductor’ means a wire,cable or <strong>for</strong>m <strong>of</strong> metal designed<strong>for</strong> carrying <strong>electrical</strong> current.Figure 3: Illustration <strong>of</strong> Differences between Safe Approach Distance, Near and VicinityBlue Book – December 2005 Page 51 <strong>of</strong> 148
