Front Panel OperationTo run the test, simple press STEP on the Model 7002. Thefollowing explanation on operation is referenced to the operationmodel shown in Figure 4-28.APressing STEP takes the Model 7002 out of the idlestate. Since the arm layer is programmed for ImmediateSpacing, operation drops down to the scan layer at point A.B Since Scan Trigger Control is set for Source, the scanwill not wait at point A for a trigger. Instead, it will bypass“Wait for Trigger Link Trigger” and proceed to point B. Notethat this Bypass is only in effect on the first pass through themodel.C Since Channel Trigger Control is also set for Source, the scan will not wait at point B for a trigger. Instead it willbypass “Wait for Trigger Link Trigger” and close the firstchannel (point C). Note that this Bypass is only in effect onthe first pass through the model.D After the relay settles, the Model 7002 will output aTrigger Link trigger pulse (point D). Since the instrument isprogrammed to scan 10 channels, operation will loop backup to point B where it will wait for an input trigger. Note thatBypass is no longer in effect.EThe trigger pulse from the Model 7002 will trigger theModel 196 to make a measurement of DUT #1. After themeasurement has completed, the DMM will output a triggerpulse (point E).The trigger applied to the Model 7002 from the DMM closesthe next channel in the scan which in turn triggers the meterto measure the next DUT. This process continues until all 10channels are scanned and measured.F After the last channel is scanned and measured, operationproceeds to point F where the Model 7002 outputs atrigger pulse. Since the Model 7002 is programmed to performtwo scans, its operation will loop back up to point Awhere it will wait for an input trigger. Note that Bypass is nolonger in effect.GThe trigger pulse from the Model 7002 triggers theModel 230 to output the next programmed voltage level. Afterthe voltage level is set, the Model 230 will output a triggerpulse (point G).The trigger pulse applied to the Model 7002 from the Model230 places operation at point B. The Bypass is again in effectbecause this is the beginning of a new scan. This allows operationto drop down to point C where the first channel willagain be closed and eventually measured. As previously explainedall ten channels are scanned and measured. After the last channel of the second scan is closed and measured, the Model 7002 returns to the idle state.4-66
