Controller ProgramsIBM PC/XT/AT with CapitalEquipment Corporation PC488Interface (Keithley PC-488-CEC)IntroductionGeneral information about controlling a Model 7002 with anIBM PC/XT/AT computer and Capital Equipment CorporationPC488 interface is given here. Refer to the CECPC488 Programming and Reference Manual for completeinformation.This paragraph covers the PC488 statements that areessential to Model 7002 operation. A partial list of programmingstatements is contained in Table B-1. The IBM BASICCALL statement is used to execute the desired action. Beforea CALL routine can be used, BASIC needs to know the offsetaddress of the routine. In the table, the first statement of eachprogramming sequence defines the offset address of theCALL routine.Example programThe following program sends a command message from anIBM PC/XT/AT computer to the Model 7002 and displaysthe response to a query on the CRT. The computer must beequipped with a CEC interface card and DOS 2.0 (or laterrevision) operating system.Initializing the systemThe first step in any program is to initialize the system usingthe INITIALIZE routine. This routine sets the primary IEEE-488 bus address of the PC488, specifies the type of controllerto be used, and sends an interface clear (IFC) to theother devices on the bus.After booting up the IBM using DOS and entering BASICA,the statements of Program 1 can be used at the start of anyprogram to initialize the system.Line 30 sets the address of the PC488 to 21, however, anyother valid address could be used as long as it does not conflictwith the address of any other device on the bus.Interface basic programming statementsDirections1. Using the front panel MENU key, set the primary IEEE-488 address of the Model 7002 (GPIB selection) to 7.2. With the power off, connect the Model 7002 to theIEEE-488 interface card installed in the IBM computer.3. Type in BASICA on the computer keyboard to get intointerpretive BASIC language.4. Enter the lines of Program 2 using the return key aftereach line.5. Run the program and type in the desired commandstring at the ENTER COMMAND MESSAGE prompt.For example, to request the currently defined Scan List,type in :SCAN? and press the return key. The Scan Listwill appear on the computer CRT.B-2
