5Maintaining YourCG-5 andTrouble-shootingMaintenanceUsing the Battery and Power AdapterThe CG-5 uses Smart battery technology. An on-board microprocessorautomatically detects the charge on each of the two system batteries andsoftware within the CG-5 converts these readings to actual time values. Therefore, you can reliably determine the amount of battery life availableprior to going to the field or monitor the battery time left while working inthe field. The system provides several ways for determining the amount of battery timeleft:• Battery icon on the lower right of the VGA display (i.e. CG-5 screen). Thisicon provides an indication of the battery capacity.• Battery 1 time left and battery 2 time left indicators that can be accessed viathe INFO key.In the event that the combined capacity for both batteries drops below tenpercent, the system also issues an alarm (i.e. buzzer signal) so that theoperator can replace batteries before power is shut off.Important:The instrument must be powered at all times (evenduring storage)!5-1CG-5 Manual - part # 867700 Revision 2
