Understanding Instrument BasicsThe instrument is also supplied with a free standing battery charger whichallows the batteries to be charged off-line.Note:To power up the unit:Only use the power supply provided with theinstrument - the use of another power supply coulddamage the instrument.• connect the input of the external power supply to the mains (100 - 240V AC,47 - 63 Hz)• connect the 15V DC output to the two pin power socket at the rear of theCG-5 front panelThe unit will now power up whether or not batteries are installed.StartupTo insert a battery:Note:The external power supply is cooled by a fanthrough vents on its top surface. To allow foradequate cooling always operate the power supplyon a clear flat surface with nothing on top of it.• remove the battery compartment cover from the side of the unit• If you look into the compartment you will see the connector on the bottom ofthe rear panel of the compartment. Insert the battery with the socket down sothat it mates with the plug• Replace the battery compartment cover.Note:You will know if you insert the battery the wrongway because the battery compartment cover will notclose completely.Note:The state of charge of the batteries is given bythe small icon at the bottom of the screen or by thepressing the INFO key and displaying theinformation page as described later in this section.1-9CG-5 Manual - part # 867700 Revision 2
