TIP #02: DEFEND THE DEFENSELESS …
Every time you hear gossip being uttered, and every time you are tempted to gossip
yourself, have the humility to pause and openly defend the one being attacked instead.
To do so does not mean that you must affirm the attacked person’s actions or agree with
their professed beliefs. It does mean that you have the courage to firmly yet gently divert
the conversation away from their faults and towards their virtues;
… away from their mistakes and towards their triumphs;
… away from what they might have done “wrong” and towards the caring, “right” person
they innately are.
It goes beyond walking in the other’s shoes …
It chooses to remember the Good Person who is always walking in them.
“All too often arrogance accompanies strength, and we must never assume that justice is
on the side of the strong. The use of power must always be accompanied by gentleness.”
