Every casual meat-eater that becomes a vegetarian saves hundreds of animal lives every<br />

year. It is one of <strong>the</strong> easiest ways out <strong>the</strong>re to do something powerfully Good &<br />

amazingly noble for o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

SHIFTING TO A RESPECT-BASED DIET: SOME HELPFUL TIPS<br />

TIP #01 – In <strong>the</strong> beginning, at least, it might be beneficial to FIND ALTERNATIVES<br />

that taste like meat … There are some companies that have gotten pretty good at making<br />

tofu taste very much like different types of meat (though in <strong>the</strong> U.S. <strong>the</strong>re is always <strong>the</strong><br />

Monsanto problem to deal with when it comes to soybeans). Portabello mushrooms also<br />

taste remarkably like meat when <strong>the</strong>y are grilled correctly …<br />

TIP #02 – Much more importantly, REMEMBER WHY you are doing it: for <strong>the</strong> animals<br />

& for your children & for <strong>the</strong> Earth … To help with your motivation, watch<br />

documentaries about meat processing like “The Beautiful Truth,” “Earthlings,” “Food<br />

Matters,” “Food Inc.,” “Forks over Knives,” and “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.”<br />

Remember that <strong>the</strong>re is no such thing as “animal friendly” meat …<br />

… and that <strong>the</strong>re is no such thing as “human friendly” meat ei<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

TIP #03 – Repeatedly ENGAGE <strong>the</strong> 3 STEPS to FREEDOM:<br />

Acknowledge your desire to consume <strong>the</strong> flesh of ano<strong>the</strong>r sentient being,<br />

Console your ego, first by exuding gratitude for its sincere-yet-misguided efforts<br />

to keep you healthy, and second by reminding it that you are not choosing to be a<br />

vegetarians forever – simply for that one meal, and<br />

Transcend your addiction, first by eating something delicious & plant-based, and<br />

second by going forth to do something Kind for ano<strong>the</strong>r -- humbly Caring for ano<strong>the</strong>r by<br />

easing his/her burdens, instead of selfishly caring about yourself by satisfying your own<br />

cravings.<br />
