The atlas is concerned with sea ice and its effect on shipping in<br />

Canadian Arctic waters. The work also dea/s with west Groenland<br />

waters north of Disko Bugt and with the north coast of Alaska from<br />

Icy Cape eastwards, to cover the eastern and western approaches to<br />

the area. The atlas contains charts wizich summarize every available<br />

ice observation from 1900 onwards for selected reference stations spaced<br />

55 miles apart throughout the area. The purpose of presenting the<br />

observations in this way is to • show the range of variabiiity at a given<br />
