The atlas is concerned with sea ice and its effect on shipping in
Canadian Arctic waters. The work also dea/s with west Groenland
waters north of Disko Bugt and with the north coast of Alaska from
Icy Cape eastwards, to cover the eastern and western approaches to
the area. The atlas contains charts wizich summarize every available
ice observation from 1900 onwards for selected reference stations spaced
55 miles apart throughout the area. The purpose of presenting the
observations in this way is to • show the range of variabiiity at a given
