It is worth menti<strong>on</strong>ing that technical evaluati<strong>on</strong> has been per<strong>for</strong>med c<strong>on</strong>sidering both voice and data<br />

(ETCS) applicati<strong>on</strong>s. It has also been stated that, if voice applicati<strong>on</strong>s were not required, technical<br />

criteria that are more difficult to comply by <strong>SATCOM</strong> soluti<strong>on</strong>s could be achieved (such as the link<br />

availability) or even eliminated (such as the use <strong>of</strong> handhelds). In this case, and per<strong>for</strong>ming the same<br />

previous calculati<strong>on</strong> but c<strong>on</strong>sidering <strong>on</strong>ly ETCS data applicati<strong>on</strong>, technical requirements could<br />

improve, as Figure 94 shows (take into account that this figure has a different scale in order to<br />

appreciate better differences am<strong>on</strong>g soluti<strong>on</strong>s). In this case, it can be observed that, in general, all the<br />

soluti<strong>on</strong>s improve a lot regarding the previous graph where both voice and ETCS data applicati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

were c<strong>on</strong>sidered. In fact, all the soluti<strong>on</strong>s seem to improve a similar value except <strong>for</strong> the MEO/C-band<br />

soluti<strong>on</strong>, whose improvement is lower because <strong>of</strong> this soluti<strong>on</strong> was already compliant with most <strong>of</strong> the<br />

technical criteria.<br />

Hence, and c<strong>on</strong>sidering the scenario with <strong>on</strong>ly ETCS data applicati<strong>on</strong>, the hypothetical MEO/C-band<br />

and the IRIS FOC (GEO/L-band + ANTARES CS functi<strong>on</strong>alities) are the best-scored soluti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />
