NGN c<strong>on</strong>cept separates applicati<strong>on</strong>s from transport networks (bearers). This way, from the applicati<strong>on</strong><br />

point <strong>of</strong> view it will not be important the selected bearer. Figure 16 shows this new c<strong>on</strong>cept where<br />

several bearers are available and they are used depending <strong>on</strong> the type <strong>of</strong> terminal and availability.<br />

The core transport network is based <strong>on</strong> IP and the services and applicati<strong>on</strong>s are agnostic to the<br />

bearer.<br />

It means that, depending <strong>on</strong> the c<strong>on</strong>crete situati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> each user, a terminal may need to change <strong>of</strong><br />

bearer in order to keep its c<strong>on</strong>nectivity. With the aim <strong>of</strong> not disrupting the service, a smooth transiti<strong>on</strong><br />

between bearers is expected, and it shall be transparent, seamless and without any acti<strong>on</strong> required<br />

from the user side. One important key element/mechanism within this point is the smart-routing,<br />

which will provide the ability <strong>of</strong> changing <strong>of</strong> communicati<strong>on</strong> system when required according to current<br />

availability and some other possible in<strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong> like the preferred network c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
