Delay study<br />

Since this system is based <strong>on</strong> a GEO satellite operating with an L-band, the theoretical delay expected is very similar to the <strong>on</strong>e calculated with the<br />

Inmarsat 4 system. There<strong>for</strong>e, see secti<strong>on</strong> §C.3.1.1 <strong>for</strong> more details.<br />

Thuraya can provide data communicati<strong>on</strong>s up to 60 kbps downlink and 15 kbps uplink. There<strong>for</strong>e, in this example we assume a transmissi<strong>on</strong> data rate in<br />

the return link <strong>of</strong> 15 kbps. To calculate the transmissi<strong>on</strong> time the following approximati<strong>on</strong> is d<strong>on</strong>e:<br />

T tx is the transmissi<strong>on</strong> time <strong>for</strong> a given packet<br />

T up is the propagati<strong>on</strong> delay from ground to the overhead satellite<br />

T down is the propagati<strong>on</strong> time from the satellite to the ground<br />
