Offerings (bali) - Food <strong>and</strong> alcoholic drinks. To <strong>the</strong> main deity for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Tantric</strong> feast following <strong>the</strong><br />

consecration.<br />

Gifts (dakṣiṇā) - Money, clothing, or ritual items. In gratitude <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> guru.<br />

O<strong>the</strong>r Items<br />

Cushions (āsanas) – For <strong>the</strong> guru <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> guru’s consort in <strong>the</strong> center, for <strong>the</strong> two students facing<br />

<strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> center, <strong>and</strong> for <strong>the</strong> kula, in pairs, formed in a circle.<br />

Preparation of <strong>the</strong> Guru<br />

1. The guru ba<strong>the</strong>s, <strong>and</strong> is clean <strong>and</strong> fresh-smelling.<br />

2. The guru dresses as Vajravilāsinī or Padmanarteśvara, wearing <strong>the</strong> Five or Three Symbolic<br />

Ornaments respectively, depending on <strong>the</strong> guru’s gender. See Chapter 9: Preparing for Practice.<br />

3. The guru cultivates a positive mental state.<br />

4. The guru transforms in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> deity.<br />

Preparation of <strong>the</strong> Students<br />

For <strong>the</strong> first consecration, students arrive <strong>to</strong>pless, wearing wrap-around skirts. For <strong>the</strong> remaining<br />

consecrations, <strong>the</strong> female student dresses as Vajravilāsinī <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> male student as<br />

Padmanarteśvara. For additional preparation, see Chapter 9: Preparing for Practice.<br />

Blessing <strong>the</strong> Ritual Implements – Prokṣana<br />

Arising from emptiness as <strong>the</strong> deity, <strong>the</strong> guru blesses all <strong>the</strong> ritual items needed for <strong>the</strong> ritual, by<br />

waving s<strong>and</strong>alwood incense over <strong>the</strong>m <strong>and</strong> reciting <strong>the</strong> ḍhāranī mantra of Vajravilāsinī 10x for<br />

all of <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
