madhyama cūlakaṃ dattvā tyakta padmotkaṭāsanām<br />

He moves her arms <strong>to</strong> his shoulders, <strong>the</strong> same posture as <strong>the</strong> goddess.<br />

devī bāhu dvayam iva tasyā bāhu dvayaṃ caret<br />

Having already made himself look like <strong>the</strong> god, she moves in closer <strong>and</strong> he begins <strong>to</strong> position his lover in<br />

<strong>the</strong> squatting posture of <strong>the</strong> goddess, <strong>and</strong> she holds it ei<strong>the</strong>r until <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> end of verse 111, or for as<br />

long as is comfortable.<br />

Drawing <strong>the</strong> Maṇḍala<br />

33 (33). Approaching her yoni, as <strong>the</strong> source of all appearances,<br />

tasyā dharmodayāpanne kṛtvā vartula maṇḍalaṃ<br />

he draws a maṇḍala, with <strong>the</strong> finger of his left h<strong>and</strong>.<br />

vāma karāmṛtāṅgulyā kuṅkumai rakta c<strong>and</strong>anaiḥ<br />

He uses <strong>the</strong> ring finger of his left h<strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong> draw a maṇḍala circle around her yoni in a counterclockwise<br />

direction with red wine paste. Within <strong>the</strong> circle he draws a double triangle, visualized as a threedimensional<br />

tetrahedron, using saffron powder for <strong>the</strong> upward triangle <strong>and</strong> red wine paste for <strong>the</strong><br />

downward triangle.<br />

34 (34). Forming <strong>the</strong> Dharmodaya, her yoni as a maṇḍala,<br />

tadanu dharmodayākāraṃ tatreiva maṇḍalaṃ caret<br />

marked with <strong>the</strong> maṇḍala mantra, <strong>the</strong>y recite <strong>the</strong> mantra.<br />

etan maṇḍala mantraṃ tu mantroddhāre ’sti bhāṣitam<br />

The maṇḍala mantra is eṃ āṃ rīṃ raṃ brīṃ, visualized as an inward-facing circle counter-clockwise<br />

within <strong>the</strong> maṇḍala circle. Recite <strong>the</strong> mantra 3x <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r as you focus on visualizing <strong>the</strong> maṇḍala.<br />
