In the past Macau was once called Ou<br />
Mun, or ‘a gateway for trade’, due to its<br />
location on the estuary of the Xi Jiang<br />
river. It was an indispensable resting<br />
spot for Chinese merchants trading in<br />
Southeast Asia. The Ou Mun community<br />
greatly expanded when farmers from<br />
Guangdong and fishermen from Fujian<br />
migrated here.<br />
