การแพทย์ในยุคปัจจุบันนั ้นไม่สามารถฟันธงลงไปได้อย่างเฉพาะ<br />
เจาะจงว่า โรคร้ายแรงอย่างโรคมะเร็ง โดยเฉพาะโรคมะเร็งเต้านม<br />
ที่คร่าชีวิตผู้หญิงไทยไปมากที่สุดในบรรดาโรคมะเร็งทั้งหมดนั้น เกิด<br />
ขึ้นได้อย่างไร มีเพียงได้แต่คาดเดาสาเหตุ และชี้ถึงความเสี่ยง เพื่อป้องกัน<br />
เหตุอันอาจจะเกิดขึ้นได้ แต่ก็ไม่ได้หมายความว่า ผู้หญิงทุกคนที่มีเต้านมจะ<br />
ปลอดภัยจากโรคร้ายแรงนี้ แม้จะไม่ได้มีพฤติกรรมเสี่ยงใดๆ ก็ตาม<br />
มีสื่อหลากหลายสายที่พยายามรณรงค์เรื่องดังกล่าว และกระตุ้นเตือน<br />
ให้สาวๆ ทุกคนหมั่นตรวจเต้านมตนเอง เพื่อที่จะเจอชิ้นมะเร็งดังกล่าวใน<br />
ระยะเริ่มต้น และได้รับการรักษาให้ทันท่วงที เพราะมะเร็งเต้านมเป็นมะเร็ง<br />
ที่ตรวจพบได้ง่าย และสามารถรักษาให้หายขาดได้หากค้นพบในระยะเริ่ม<br />
แรก และได้รับการรักษาอย่างถูกต้อง<br />
การลุกลามของมะเร็งเต้านมนั้นเกิดขึ้นเมื่อเซลล์แบ่งตัวผิดปกติใน<br />
บริเวณเต้านม กลายเป็นก้อนแข็งๆ (ระยะที่ 1) และเริ่มใหญ่ขึ้นจนสัมผัส<br />
ได้ (ระยะที่ 2 จะเริ่มนับเมื่อก้อนมะเร็งมีขนาดเกินกว่า 2 เซนติเมตร แต่<br />
ไม่เกิน 5 เซนติเมตร) จนกระทั่งเซลล์มะเร็งลุกลามเข้าต่อมน้ำ าเหลือง (ระยะ<br />
ที่ 3) และลามไปทั่วต่อมน้ำาเหลืองในร่างกาย (ระยะที่ 4) ซึ่งการรับมือกับ<br />
มะเร็งในแต่ละระยะนั้นก็แตกต่างกันไปตามลักษณะของชิ้นเนื้อ ความรุนแรง<br />
ของประเภทชิ้นเนื้อ และระยะที่ตรวจเจอ<br />
การรักษาหลักๆ ได้แก่ การตัดชิ้นเนื้อที่เป็นมะเร็งออกไป (อาจจะตัด<br />
ทิ้งเพียงก้อนและเนื้อรอบก้อนในกรณีที่ชิ้นเนื้อนั้นยังไม่ใหญ่มาก และไม่<br />
ลุกลามไปไหน แต่ก็อาจจะตัดทิ้งทั้งเต้านมและเลาะต่อมน้ำาเหลืองบริเวณ<br />
ใกล้เคียง หากชิ้นเนื้อลุกลามเข้าสู่ระยะที่สาม) พักฟื้นให้แผลหายสนิท ต่อ<br />
ด้วยการรักษาด้วยยาเคมีบำาบัด การฉายแสง และการกินยาฮอร์โมนอย่าง<br />
ต่อเนื่อง ทั้งนี้ทั้งนั้น แพทย์จะเป็นผู้วินิจฉัยเรื่องความเหมาะสมของชนิด<br />
การผ่าตัด ชนิดยาเคมี ความเข้มข้นของแสงที่ใช้ฉาย ไปจนถึงชนิดและ<br />
ระยะเวลาในการให้ยาฮอร์โมนอย่างต่อเนื่องเอง<br />
Current medical technology isn’t capable of directly<br />
pinpointing the cause of some fatal diseases. This is especially<br />
true with breast cancer. With the highest casualty rates for<br />
female patients amongst other kinds of cancer, we can only<br />
guess and analyse the elements that may help us prevent it.<br />
Also, with such varying risk factors, it’s almost impossible to<br />
claim full prevention.<br />
Many awareness campaigns encourage women to examine<br />
their breasts for possible dangers. Finding the cancer fast is<br />
incredibly important. This first step is simple to do, and is<br />
possibly the best measure for early detection.<br />
Breast cancer starts when cells wrongly split in the breast<br />
area and form into a lump (stage 1), then the lump grows in<br />
size (stage 2 starts when the lump exceeds 2 centimetres,<br />
but not more than 5 centimetres) and creeps into the<br />
surrounding lymph node (stage 3), before finally infecting<br />
the other lymph nodes of the body (stage 4). The treatment<br />
of each stage is different due to the type of the cancer and<br />
aggression level.<br />
A common treatment procedure is to physically remove<br />
the lump. The doctor might cut out the cancerous tissue and<br />
the nearby area if the cancerous cells have not spread. The<br />
whole breast can be cut off in case the patient reaches stage<br />
three. After the patient recovers from surgery, they will often<br />
undergo chemotherapy, radiology or hormonal intake,<br />
depending on the doctor’s recommendations.<br />
