4.1 (b) Shipping Department:<br />

This is the department that handles the merchandise that<br />

go out of the warehouse. The orders from the individual<br />

Co-operative me<strong>mb</strong>ers with mini-computers are made on a<br />

daily basis, and it is the duty of the shipping department<br />

to prepare the goods ready for shippment. When the orders<br />

came from the computer terminal's print out, goods are<br />

dispatched from the individual points within the warehouse<br />

storages to shipping department which is close to the<br />

loading bay.<br />

For the purpose of the Shipping Department and the storage<br />

department there are five sections; the section being<br />

demarcated according to the ease with which the goods can<br />

be brought to the shipping point, the nature of the goods<br />

and type of equipment necessary for hauling the products<br />

to this point. Roughly this is based on size and weights<br />

These sections are as presented below:­<br />

A. Section consists of small items main light items like<br />

soaps, small automotive parts (bulbs e.t.c.). This section<br />

is on the upstair's floor within the warehouse - These<br />

parts we brought to the shipping points on carts.<br />

B. Area type department - This is near or next to the<br />

shipping departments and have mainly tyres. Tyres can be<br />

rolled easily to shipping department. Also batteries for<br />

vehicles are stored within this area.<br />

(C)<br />

Lube plants areas contain mainly oils, grease antifreeze<br />

e.t.c. These products are brought by fork lifts to the<br />

loading bay.<br />

D. Handles non-poisonous merchandise. These include<br />

goods on pellets that can be picked up by motor fork lifts<br />

-<br />

under these include Animal foods, edible consumer<br />

products, animal foods and diary products are stored<br />

down-stairs.<br />

The oils section is in Lube department. Goods included<br />

here are lube plant products namely oils, grease, antifreeze<br />

e.t.c. These products are picked by fork-lifts to<br />

shipping department.<br />
