ACTIONS<br />

Technical <strong>and</strong> Management<br />

The following portable <strong>and</strong> wheeled fire extinguishers should be provided at every terminal berth,<br />

wharf jetty or fuel-transfer location h<strong>and</strong>ling flammable liquids including flammable liquids in drums:<br />

• Site h<strong>and</strong>ling less than one tanker per week:<br />

- 2 x 9 kg portable dry chemical extinguisher<br />

- 2 x 50 kg wheeled dry chemical extinguisher<br />

• Sites h<strong>and</strong>ling more than one tanker per week:<br />

- 4 x 9 kg portable dry chemical extinguisher<br />

- 2 x 75 kg wheeled dry chemical extinguisher<br />

Fire extinguishers should be located at the berth so that they can be reached without travelling more<br />

than 15 m. Location <strong>of</strong> fire extinguisher should be clearly marked by luminous background paint<br />

(glows in the dark in the event <strong>of</strong> a power cut), (see figure 14 below) or suitable coloured protective<br />

boxes. The lifting h<strong>and</strong>le should be at a height <strong>of</strong> less than one metre.<br />
