it with a strong awareness of the effects of texture. Schindler had<br />

worked in the office of Frank Lloyd Wright at the time when that architect<br />

was designing Tokyo’s Imperial Hotel. Like Wright himself, and many<br />

other <strong>Modern</strong>ist architects, Schindler was indebted to the minimal, functional,<br />

and spiritually-unified spaces of the traditional Japanese home
