Newport Jazz Festival, du théâtre Nô et Kyogen, du Ballet africain, du
Ballet national (Mexique), du Ballet Idla et du Ballet coréen, ainsi que
quarante-trois expositions de peinture et de nombreux spectacles de
théâtre. Pour sa part, Morelia a pu admirer le Ballet de Cuba, l'orchestre
et la troupe de jazz de l'université du Texas, les Ballets folklorique et
moderne du Guatemala, le Ballet africain et l'Ensemble folklorique et le
Ballet du Panama. Quant à Monterrey, elle a accueilli l'ensemble I Mu-
sicisti d'Argentine, ainsi que des groupes vocaux de San Antonio (Texas)
et de l'université de Washington.
Elizeth Cardoso a donné un récital à Guanajuato, où se sont également
rendues de nombreuses troupes internationales, dont l'Atelier dramatique
de Cuba et le Ballet folklorique du Panama. D'autre part, une Semaine
culturelle avait été organisée du 23 au 29 juin dans cette même ville.
Parmi les participants figuraient le Ballet Opéra de Finlande, la Com-
pagnie philippine Bayanihan, le Ballet des Cinq Continents, l'Orchestre
symphonique de l'université de Guanajuato et diverses troupes théâ-
trales du Mexique.
Cette vaste diffusion des manifestations culturelles a permis à un grand
nombre d'habitants de la province de prendre contact avec les civilisa-
tions des autres pays. En réponse, plusieurs Etats ont participé active-
ment à l'Olympiade culturelle en envoyant à Mexico des groupes folklo-
riques représentant les cultures régionales du pays.
Le Comité organisateur a fourni au meilleur prix possible le logement,
la nourriture et les transports à tous les participants à l'Olympiade
culturelle. Il a également publié des catalogues, des dépliants, des
programmes et des comptes rendus de tous les événements. De nom-
breuses organisations gouvernementales et privées ont apporté leur
précieuse collaboration, mais le grand succès remporté par l'Olympiade
culturelle a surtout été dû à la participation enthousiaste de 97 nations,
membres du mouvement international olympique.

and numerous theatrical works. The residents of Morelia enjoyed the
National Ballet of Cuba, the University of Texas Band and Jazz Group,
the Modern and Folk Ballets of Guatemala, the African Ballet and the
Folk Music Ensemble and Ballet of Panama. Monterrey was host to I
Musicisti of Argentina as well as to choral groups from San Antonio,
Texas and the University of Washington.
The charming Colonial city of Guanajuato—one of the country's main
cultural centers—was visited by numerous international groups, in-
cluding the Drama Workshop of Cuba, the Folk Ballet of Panama and
Elizeth Cardoso. From June 23 to 29, a Cultural Week was held in
Guanajuato as part of the International Festival of the Arts. Parti-
cipating in the program were the Finish Opera Ballet, the Bayanihan
Philippine Dance Company, the Ballet of the Five Continents, the Gua-
najuato University Symphony Orchestra and various Mexican theatrical
companies. Eight International films were also exhibited as part of
the Cultural Week.
The wide dissemination of cultural events provided a large number of
people throughout the provinces of Mexico contact with a wide variety
of international culture, which served to promote greater understanding
and knowledge of the peoples of other nations. In turn, many of the
country's states sent folk groups and other representatives of Mexican
regional culture to the capital, thus adding a rich complementary aspect
to the Cultural Olympiad.
The Organizing Committee provided food and housing at nominal cost,
as well as transportation, for all the participants in the Cultural Olym-
piad. Catalogues, folders, programs and special reports were published
by the Committee for all the events. Many private and governmental
organizations also contributed to the program. But the success of the
Cultural Olympiad was due above all to the enthusiastic participation of
ninety-seven member nations of the international Olympic movement.
